Family Medicine

About Family Medicine

Family Medicine and Internal Medicine are both primary care practices, but there is a difference in the focus of their practice. Family Medicine physicians are trained in the general care of patients of all ages, including children, and the focus of the practice tends to be on preventive care and well visits in addition to treatment of illness.

Appointments:

We understand your need for easy access to your child's health practitioner. We offer well-child and sports/camp physical appointments within one business week. Sick child visits are offered same day. More information on appointments is available on our Policies page.

If your child is ill:

  • If your child is having a life-threatening event, please call 9-1-1 or proceed to the nearest emergency room.
  • If you are able, please take your child's temperature prior to calling.
  • Have a list of all medications, vitamins, and supplements (whether or not they are prescribed medications) you child is taking
  • Have a list of any drug allergies your child may have.
  • Have your pharmacy name and phone number.

Preparing for child well-visits:

  • Make sure you have a written parental authorization for medical care if your child is not with the parent/legal guardian.
  • Please have your child's health insurance card ready for every visit.
  • Please bring your child's Immunization Record with you to every well-child visit. See: the California Immunization Registry - San Diego Regional Immunization Registry (CAIR-SDIR) website.
  • Write a list of questions or concerns you would like your child's provider to address.
  • Bring health and immunization records from your child's previous medical providers or referrals, if applicable.
  • Remember to bring any sports, camp, school and medication administration forms to be filled out at the time of your visit.

San Diego CAIR database

To better serve you, our office participates in CAIR-SDIR, an on-line database for immunizations. This enables providers and patients to have easy access to their vaccination history. For more information on this service, visit the California Immunization Registry - San Diego Regional Immunization Registry (CAIR-SDIR) website.

For full disclosure on this program, or to opt out, please see the CAIR-SDIR forms.
