Return to Cardiology Tests

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to create a picture of the heart. The picture is much more detailed than a plain x-ray image and involves no radiation exposure. This test is performed by a trained sonographer, then read and interpreted by your physician. An echocardiogram allows doctors to see the heart beating, and to see many of the structures of the heart.

How to Prepare for the Test

There is no special preparation for the test.

Why the test is performed

This test is performed to evaluate the valves and chambers of the heart. The echocardiogram allows for evaluation and diagnoses of several cardiac conditions.

This test is provided by a third-party company and requires a MINIMUM of 24 hour notice for cancellation due to the scheduling of the technician. Failure to notify our office of cancellation 24 hours in advance may result in a no-show fee.
